AECOM has been appointed by the Hong Kong-Dongguan Sea-Air Intermodal Transshipment Logistics Park Management (Dongguan) Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), to deliver the HKIA Dongguan Logistics Park.

\n\n

This strategic initiative will establish a direct link between Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and Dongguan, a key manufacturing hub in the Chinese mainland. By combining Hong Kong’s robust air cargo ecosystem and Dongguan’s export-driven manufacturing strength, the project aims to unlock new efficiencies and drive significant economic growth across the Greater Bay Area (GBA).

\n\n

As the lead consultant for Phase 1 of the project, AECOM is overseeing the design, contract and construction management of the key infrastructure, building on the team’s previous end-to-end services, spanning masterplanning, design and technical studies. This initial phase includes an air cargo terminal complex, a barge terminal, freight forwarder warehouses and highly-automated facilities. A wide array of advanced digital technologies are introduced, including an intelligent guided vehicle (IGV) system and customised containers.

\n\n

The new logistics park is set to become the world’s first sea-air intermodal trans-shipment hub. Export cargo will be screened, palletised and airline-approved in Dongguan to comply with Hong Kong’s air cargo security requirements. Dedicated vessels will then transport the cargo directly to the airside of HKIA for onward trans-shipment to global destinations. Once operational, the facility is expected to handle up to 1 mil t of cargo annually, further strengthening HKIA’s status as a leading global logistics hub.

“We are leveraging our multidisciplinary expertise and cross-regional capabilities to deliver this first-of-its-kind logistics park,” said Ian Chung, regional chief executive, Asia at AECOM. “Featuring an innovative operational model and a state-of-the-art autonomous cargo handling system, the project sets a new benchmark for logistics infrastructure and efficiency – significantly enhancing the economic and physical connectivity between the GBA and global markets.”

Amata Corporation has entered into a concession agreement with the Government of Laos to develop another project in the country, named the Amata Smart and Eco City Namor, located in Oudomxay province.

\n\n

This announcement comes just months after the developer celebrated the groundbreaking of its first project in Laos, the Amata Smart and Eco City Natuey in Luang Namtha province, in the north of the country.

\n\n

The new ‘city’ in Namor, once completed, will cover an area of 3,150 ha. The first phase will be developed on 1,292 ha, with the support of Thai and foreign partners, said Amata. The construction of this modern, eco industrial park in the northwest of Laos is scheduled to begin in 2022.

\n\n

According to Amata, the company started to cooperate and work with the Government of Laos in 2018 to develop the Amata Smart and Eco City Namor, following the concept of Amata Smart and Eco City Natuey, for which a concession agreement was signed in January this year.

\n\n

Amata’s goal is to invest and develop around 200 sq km of land in total in Laos. The investments are made through its fully owned subsidiary, Amata City Laos Company Limited, with an initial investment of US$500 million.

\n\n

Vikrom Kromadit, chairman and CEO of Amata Corporation PCL, has also affirmed the company’s commitment to achieve the goal of developing the country’s most modern and safest industrial cities.

\n\n

“All of Amata’s projects are developed within a sustainability framework and with the business philosophy of ‘All Win’, aiming to jointly succeed and share benefits to all parties and sectors and environment, striving for an inclusive, sustainable growth,” he said.

\n\n

“To publicise the new projects in Laos, Amata plans to invite various global companies and organisations from government sectors, such as Yokohama Industrial City or Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), to participate in the projects and to jointly promote them among potential investor groups.

\n\n

“We want to collaborate with professional partners from various countries, in particular from Laos, Thailand, China, Japan and Singapore, to develop the various elements of Amata’s smart and eco cities and to boost investment and trade between Thailand and Laos.”

PT Intiland Development Tbk has announced the development of Batang Industrial Park (BIP), a new integrated industrial area in Batang Regency, Central Java province, Indonesia.

\n\n

The project will be divided into several stages of development. The first phase covers an area of 287 ha, with further developments planned to cover a total area of 500 ha.

\n\n

According to Intiland, BIP wil feature sustainability concepts in its design and operations. It seeks to comply with “the principles of green building, clean industrial processes, and a strict water management system to maintain a balance with nature and the surrounding community.”

\n\n

Located right on the Trans Java toll road – which is easily accessible from Jakarta, Semarang and Surabaya – BIP will accommodate “light and medium industries,” said Intiland. The developer is making the plots of land ready to build to meet the needs of factory or warehouse construction, catering to various industrial sectors. In addition, Intiland plans to provide ready-to-use factory buildings as well as warehouses.

\n\n

BIP is Intiland’s second industrial estate project in Indonesia, following the Ngoro Industrial Park in Mojokerto, East Java province.

\n\n

“Batang has become a preferred area for industrial land development. Besides being supported by excellent transportation infrastructure, Batang has a number of other added values, such as competitive labour cost, ample land availability and long-term development potential,” said Permadi Indra Yoga, Intiland’s director of business development.

\n\n

BIP will also be equipped with an integrated commercial area and a residential area designated for workers who will be working in the vicinity, added Intiland. “This facility provides ease of service and facilitates the mobilisation of workers, as well as being an added value for industrial players making BIP their base.”

Sembcorp Development, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, recently broke ground on the third expansion of the Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park in Binh Duong province, Vietnam – referred to as VSIP Binh Duong III.

\n\n

The 1,000-ha project marks a new design concept that aligns with Sembcorp’s focus on growing its portfolio of sustainable urban developments, explained the company. It is envisioned to be the model of a smart and sustainable industrial park, featuring smart technology across its operations – from energy, water and waste use, to traffic and security management.

\n\n

The use of real-time tracking devices to remotely monitor, analyse and optimise performance allows for enhanced visibility over operations, so that the park can be more secure, reliable and efficient for customers and workers.

\n\n

According to Sembcorp, the project’s 100-ha first phase is also pre-qualified to meet Singapore Building and Construction Authority’s (BCA) Green Mark for industrial districts, making it one of the greenest and most sustainable workplace environments in Vietnam.

\n\n

Another highlight of VSIP Binh Duong III is its 50-ha onsite solar farm offering grid reliability and sustainability benefits to large industrial tenants. The park’s first customer to tap on the planned solar farm is Danish toymaker Lego Group.

\n\n

At the groundbreaking ceremony, the Vietnam government presented Lego Group with the investment licence for a production facility on a 44-ha site, representing an investment of more than US$1 billion. Lego Group intends to operate its first carbon-neutral factory, which will be powered by renewable energy drawn from the solar farm installed by VSIP as well as solar panels installed onsite.

\n\n

As part of the VSIP Binh Duong III masterplan, Sembcorp revealed it will also explore providing a wider range of sustainable solutions such as micro-grid-integrated solar and battery storage, wastewater recovery and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

\n\n

The project’s groundbreaking ceremony follows the recent presentation of the investment licence to Sembcorp during the Vietnamese President’s state visit to Singapore in February 2022. Sembcorp Development is a co-master developer of the VSIP projects, leading the Singapore consortium’s partnership with Vietnam’s Becamex IDC Corporation in a 51:49 joint venture respectively.
